Hardware-Accelerated FaaS for the Edge-Cloud Continuum
Abstract
The paper presents an end-to-end solution for seamlessly executing hardware-accelerated, compute-intensive tasks on heterogeneous platforms spanning the edge-cloud continuum. The approach combines a programming interface, orchestration and application-management components, the vAccel framework, and a library of hardware-accelerated kernels to enable a Function-as-a-Service operational flow across diverse use cases. This design minimizes the effort for developers to integrate their code and for vendors to expose hardware acceleration to end users, with experimental results demonstrating its benefits.
